GASLIGHT at Origins 2003

G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. featured prominently at Origins 2003.  Author Chris Palmer was featured as one of the Historical Origins Team (or HOT) GMs and ran an astounding number of games over the four days.  Also A&E by GASLIGHT author Chris Johnston made the trip from the UK to run a series of adventures.

ACW by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.

The old favourite in 28mm.  With one or two surprises this year!

The Confederate Grizzly Bear enters the battlefield, causing great concern throughout the Union line. After Lt. Watts' death, the electro-cannon was commanded by Victoria, then Col. Surdu arrived to take charge. Was it possible that the Sorting Hat aided the Federal cannon's accuracy? Author Chris Palmer, measures the radius for a succusful artillery shot.

Union Sgt Ott, in his Impervious Suit, was able to miracualusly fend off cavalry attacks and the feared hulking Reb Sgt Ergo in this game and the other sessions.. After the Reb's Commanding officer, Major Palmer, fell off his horse into the Federal earth works on a Save roll of 20, he did some damage before Lt Dulivre of the Steamrifles, confronted him with the famous words, You Sir, are in the wrong trench!" Victoria Hawkes, in person, helped run Friday morning's game. The Rebel cavalry swarms the union armored tractor.

The Confederate Cavalry Sgt. gets on board and kills the tractor's driver. Overview of the field as the Rebel airship passes behind the Union earthworks. Union and Confederate troops and vehicles engage each other in a fierce close quarters fight.

On the Union right, steam walkers face off against a pair of Confederate Timberclads (CJ) From her position in the Union earthworks, Victoria Hawkes surveys the battlefield (CJ) A clash of steel in the centre of the field.  Fire Rifles and Louisiana Ladies prove no match for Yankee engineering. Atlantis by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.

British and Germans clashed over territorial disputes on the newly resurfaced continent.  This was an epic Battles by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. game in 15mm. Keen observers may note a certain partisan bias in the reporting of this battle, as one of our photographers led a heroic cavalry charge in this incident.

The Field of Resurfaced Atlantis lay before us.  Going: good to firm. (CJ)

"I say Carruthers, that blighter's taking our photograph."

"Must be a Hun spy.  Pot that fellow, somebody!" (CJ)

The Ancient Atlantean ruins loomed large over the battlefield, as we sounded the order to advance..... (CJ)

Half a league, half a league, half a league, onward!

Into the Valley of Death rode (and flew) the brave five hundred! (CJ)

"I say, Carruthers, I think we're being followed!"

"By Gad, you're right!  I think we'd better keep going!" (CJ)

The shattered cavalry corps reached the German lines, and then employed the very latest in British pointy-stick technology. The German line folded, but the cavalry were nearly wiped out in the attempt (CJ)

Overview of the battle

Luft Grenadier commander Todd Smith places his troops around the enemy's Leviathan

(Webmaster's Note: Sadly this picture fails to capture the excellent sound effects Todd accompanied his movement with!)

Victoria Hawkes (foreground) looks on as the British infantry give those Luft Grenadiers a jolly good thrashing. (CJ)
